Christmas Morning 2010

The kids were up early Christmas morning to see what Santa brought...it's really sweet to see how excited they are and how big their eyes get when they discover all the packages he brought!

Santa was really good to all of us this year, so we must have behaved pretty well! I don't have many pictures because my camera is dying on me...most of them come out so blurry, you can't see what the picture is of. These are the only few that turned out. Lilly rocked out on Mac's new guitar...maybe we should have gotten her one!
Anyhow, Santa must have known how badly I needed a new camera...cuz, HE BROUGHT ME ONE!
YEAH...now I can take all the pictures I want!
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve 2010

Christmas Eve was a lot of fun. All of the kids were very excited about exchanging gifts and playing together. We had our traditional salad and appetizer dinner, a play conducted by Grandma Kathy about the birth of Baby Jesus, entertainment provided by the kids, caroling and finally present opening!

Mac played Jingle Bells on the piano and Lilly sang a long...it's difficult for her to sing an entire song, but she did great!!

Santa Land

We made it to Santa Land yesterday afternoon. The kids were very anxious to get there! It has become a tradition for us to go visit him and the enchanting Santa Land every year. The kids mail their letters to the North Pole, say hello to all the reindeer and sit on Santa's lap.

Santa Land is at the downtown Portland Macy store. It's always an adventure for us to all venture out into downtown Portland. The kids are always in awe of all the lights, buildings, sounds, people, etc...it's a VERY BUSY place!
Grandpa Tex is another story...let's just say he definitely belongs on his mountain, out in the middle of nowhere....he is not city folk!

Happy Christmas Eve ya'll!

Dad's Chinook

Dad, Jimmy and Dave went fishing on Wednesday and Dad had a successful day. This is the Chinook that he caught. It weighed between 25-30 lbs. He almost had a Steel-head, but it got away from him while trying to net it. He sure enjoys getting out there on the water and fishing the days away.
Thanks Jimmy and Dave for always arranging fishing trips when Dad is here!

The Reptile Man visits...

We had a "pre-party" for Mac today. He is almost 10! As most of you know, he is lover of animals and creatures...so The Reptile Man payed him a visit today!
We had 29 kids here!
It was AWESOME!

The Snapping Turtle...

Lots of Snakes...

This is Mac's 5th year of collecting items for The Oregon Humane Society at his birthday parties. He asks each guest to bring an item in lieu of a present for himself. He loves taking all the stuff into the shelter and visiting with the animals.
What a haul! The Humane Society will put all these donations to great use. Thanks to all of you for coming and sharing Mac's passion about all creatures! He can't wait to go deliver it all!

The reptile Man was just amazing! He does an OUTSTANDING job with all his reptiles and with teaching children and adults about them. He gave Mac a t-shirt and it says-
"We will conserve only that which we respect. We will respect only that which we understand. We will understand only that which we are taught."
Simply Amazing- the kids learned a lot and have a new respect for all creatures. Thanks Rich, Mac will never forget his 10th birthday!
Here is a link to his web-site. Look him up- www.reptileman.org

LaPine

We just got back home from another trip to LaPine. We went over because Dad bought 2 snowmobiles to add to our collection. One is a big one that is comfortable enough for him to sit and ride, the other is a smaller one for the kids! They were all so excited to ride, they couldn't wait to get over there! It was a great trip and we will be going back again in a few weeks. This picture was taken at Paulina Falls. They rode the sleds up there and enjoyed the view. It's really pretty breathtaking.
We have been so busy going and running around that I just haven't much time to post. I plan on doing a "big catch'n up post" soon!
Love ya all-

Griff's One Year appointment

Griff's appointment went well and he checked out nice and healthy! He weighs 24.9 lbs and is
31 1/4" long. His weight has leveled off a bit because he is very active. He is still a big boy on the charts both in height and weight. Dr. Anderson also noticed that 5 of his back teeth are already cutting through...OUCH!! No wonder the boy has been hollering full blast the last few weeks. I should have known something was up. He just doesn't usually scream that much unless we cinch him down in his car seat of course ;0)
Poor kid, she said his mouth looked very tender.
That is a whole lot of teeth to be cutting at one time and it is early too.
He had to have 4 shots. Dad went with me and I wasn't aware that he had never seen a baby get vaccinations before...
he was sitting in a chair for the whole appt, just listening to all the questions they ask and making a few comments here or there about how active Griff is. When the nurse came in to give the shots, he kind of joked a bit about it...but when Griff got the first one and started bawling I could see he was little disturbed. By the time the second shot was given, Griff was hysterical! Dad jumped out of his chair and came over to us and was desperately trying to console Griff, but he had this loud, nervous laugh bellowing from him and it was not helping. I felt like I had 2 very upset kiddos when we left. Dad looked at the nurse and said "Well, you just ruined his day!" I was quietly laughing at him as we left. I think Grandpa Tex is getting some real quality time with his grand babies this trip!!
Hee-hee...

Comical...

I just wanted to take a minute to describe our drive home from LaPine after Thanksgiving. It turned out to be some trip...I didn't think it very funny at the time, but now- it's hilarious!
(I am positive that Pat would agree and even my Pops)
We left LaPine at around 12:30 and had no problems getting past Bend, etc. Pat even stopped in Bend and let me do some shopping at the Outlet Mall while they went to DQ for a bite to eat. We were making really good time until we hit the mountain. Traffic was at a dead stop and all we could see were tail lights for miles and miles. We were literally stopped for about 2 hours or more. We just inched our way up and over it. I never saw an accident, but there must have been something going on. We knew that there was going to be some traffic by Meadows, Ski Bowl and Timberline. It was a big ski weekend for all the resorts, but there's no way that was the big hold up.
Anyhow, Pat had been driving the whole trip, but after I had entertained the kids for 2 hours and we had hardly moved- I needed a break. Griff screams in his car seat. He hates is. I had given up and taken him out of it because we weren't moving anyway. I even got out of the truck with him and stood on the side of the road. That didn't last too long because it was getting dark and it was very cold. Before I switched places with Pat, Griff whacked me in the eye with a flashlight. It cut me just under my eye and was bleeding pretty good. I had given it to him out of desperation for entertainment...not a good idea. He was swinging it all around to watch the light move all over the cab of the truck. When he hit me, it hurt like hell. I was definitely ready to be in the front seat for awhile.
Once Pat and I switched places, traffic started to move a little bit faster, but not over 30 mph. Of course both kids needed to potty as soon as traffic started to move. I told them I could not pull over because we would never get back in line on the road. It was very slick and the back-up had to be at least 10 miles long, plus I was pulling a trailer! Well, they held it for awhile, but you know how kids are. Mac was in tears, so I told Pat to give him an empty DQ cup to pee in. Yes, I know, kind of weird...but I was not pulling over. Pat was scrambling to keep control of all 3 kids. Lilly was crying because she had to potty, Griff was screaming because he was just done being in the truck and Mac was attempting to pee in a cup. He was successful so I said roll down the window and toss it out far from the truck. I thought he would just pour it out...NOPE, he threw the whole cup out! Loitering is a big no-no up here! I was so worried that the people behind us were going to turn us in! After we survived that, Lilly was ticked because I wouldn't let her pee in a cup...she was sobbing and crying NO FAIR. I was trying to pay attention to the road and explain to her that it was too hard for her to pee in a cup. She wasn't going to give in...
I brainstormed for a minute and said "put on one of Griff's diapers". That seemed to make her happy for a bit until she couldn't put it on herself and Pat couldn't help because Griff was still having a major screaming fit. Mac refused to help her, so she was on her own. Luckily she "held it" until we were over the mountain and could pull into a DQ (ironic?) for her to use the ladies room.
A usual 4 hour trip took us forever! We got home around 7:30 that evening. I was not laughing then, but I am now!

Thanksgiving in LaPine 2010

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun this year and very busy! There were 22 people over there this year! I think we all enjoyed it. There was a lot of snow too- we played, built snow forts and snowmobiled the days away.

Griff and Brewer enjoyed their custom made sled. Brewer fell asleep on it!
Griff loved the snowmobile!
Alec did an awesome job of taking the little one's for rides. He was a lifesaver...good job Alec!
Yes, this is Lilly- waiting for uncle Jimmy to pull her on the tube behind his 4 wheeler...she never stops! Below, she is coming down one of the great sledding spots we found.

Tarver, Lilly and Kate spent some time working on a snow fort.
Dad kept himself busy all day long. He can't sit still for longer than 10 minutes. (not kidding)
He was our mechanic for all the sleds and also cut down some trees that needed to come down.

We all ate and ate until we just couldn't anymore. There was always a hustle and bustle going on in the kitchen.

Good times and Good memories...that's what Thanksgiving is all about!
