Griff Troubles...
I know that a lot of you read my blog just to see what sort of mischief Lil' Griff gets in to...
well, the last few weeks-
there have been a few "doozies" to report!
Maybe funny now, but not at the time...and I am not laughing about them yet!
SO- remember my garden? Remember all the trials Pat and I went through to just get it going?
If not, click here- http://potterluv.blogspot.com/2012/04/too-garden-or-not-too-garden.html
My garden looked like this after all our hard work and effort.
I was feeling pretty good that everything was going to turn out OK...
This is what it looks like now-
Yep...it looks like a mini tornado hit it...that would be Griff. NO PLANTS, NO FENCE...he even pulled off the boards of the corner posts. This kid is SO FREAKIN' STRONG...it is SCARY.
So, we will not have a garden this year. I have decided to pick and choose my battles carefully with him and this is not one I am going to fight! The garden boxes are now his dirt boxes to play in!
NEXT GRIFF STORM-
This week he has been in destructo mode. I have had to lock him out of every room except the living room and the playroom...
He was up in his room while I was unloading the dishwasher. I went to check on him and this is what I found- again...blogger not rotating my pics...Grrrr!
He got in his closet and tore it up...took an entire hour or so to get it all back in order. I have now locked him out of his own room, I am a mean Mom.
I am not sure why he has been so crazy the last few weeks. Anything that he can get into, or tear up or do, that he KNOWS he is not suppose to do...he gives it his ALL.
I have a whole new head of grey hairs from the last few weeks...I am not kidding!
The worst incident happened not too long ago and I still tear up a bit and feel a bit "shaky" over it.
Please keep in mind that we have Toddler Proofed this house from top to bottom while you are reading this-
He was in the back yard playing, having a good time. I can see most of our back yard from our windows, but there are two small sections that I cannot see. No biggie, because he has never been able to get out. I was unloading the dishwasher and checking on him every few minutes or so. He was content, so I went upstairs to unload the dryer and put in another load of clothes. Not sure how much time went by, maybe 5 or 6 minutes?? I hear the doorbell ring and it's some people from our neighborhood and guess who they have? YEP- Griff. I freaked! I didn't know that he had gotten out of the yard...I knew he could not open the gate for sure. They saw him walking down the side walk, down the road that is behind our house!!!! A road that is pretty busy with traffic...he could have gotten hit by a car. I was in tears. I thanked them and the whole time prayed that they would not call Child Services on me! I went into the back yard and looked everywhere...the only way for him to get out was climb our back fence! Seriously...how in the heck could a 2.5 year old climb a fence? Well, with Griff...anything is possible. I kept him in the house the rest of the afternoon trying to recover. I was so upset.
After Pat got home, I left and took Lilly to gymnastics, so thankful for a break! Pat let him oustide and watched him...the little monster climbed up one of my wagon wheels that was leaning against the fence as yard decor (belonged to my Dad) and began to hop over the fence. Pat caught him, scolded him and we decided to move everything away from the back fence! I now have to make sure that there is nothing out there- like our patio chairs for him to scoot over to the fence and climb over! It's NUTS!
His determination is UNBELIEVABLE.
Now, this is not the first time he has escaped from our home. Pat and I were not here when it happened and we were not aware (at the time) that he had figured out how to unlock the deadbolt on the front door. The poor, sweet person that was watching him...learned it the hard way. He got out and took off running. He went down a bike path that I run/walk on almost daily with him. It took over 15 minutes for him to be found. There is thick brush, woods, creeks, ponds, strangers....and all- on that bike path. He took a few years of the babysitters life that day and had us all sick about it. The front door now has a very hefty lock on it that he cannot even get close too and an alarm.
Think I am done yet....NOPE.
On Monday of this week- I had Bunco in Canby with my gals in the evening and Mac and Lilly were doing a bike race at PIR in Portland. Pat took Griff to Grandma Kathy's house (Pat's Momma) before taking the kids to PIR. The Lil' Monster escaped out of her house, she luckily caught him right away...but he ran from her and made it up the street a bit before she was able to get him. She has many, many grand-kids and watches all of them regularly and has never had one escape. I know the feeling she felt all to well.
I can handle the day to day obstacles that this child of mine throws at me...I know they keep me young, challenge me, make some pretty funny stories for later times and will eventually make great memories...but the escaping out of the house events, just can't happen anymore! I will most definitely have a heart-attack if another escape happens. None of us are lazy or neglectful or "not supervising" him....
he is simply just crazy smart and crazy determined to do what he wants. Mac and Lilly did not even try HALF of the stuff Griff does. Pat and I feel like we are new to this parenting thing and we are on kid #3...how is that possible? We should have somewhat of a clue right? UGH...anyhow,
I KNOW THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING TOO...LORD HELP US.
For those of you that follow his stories- stay tuned...I am sure I will have more "whoppers" to blog in no time at all!
