Grandpa Tex arrived early to surprise us! He got in at about 5 this morn. He made the trip in about 40 hours.... NUTS!
He has brought all kinds of cool things for each of us....
One of them being two horny toad lizards for Mac & Lilly, but we have a major problem.
They eat red ants only and we have none here and neither do the pet shops or feed stores!! I rush ordered some just now, but not sure how fast they will get here-
More info to come later!

That is too funny! I bet he was exhausted when he got there. Have a great time with Uncle Jerry. I know he will be so happy to be surrounded by your family for awhile.
Way cool! Horny lizards? hmmm.
What a terrific way to wake up in the AM!!! How super that your dad came earlier than anticipated! A wonderful surprise! Enjoy and treasure every moment with him!
Jerry told me to get with you on how to take care of the toads. I have raised several with Mason, but lost the first ones until I figured out how to care for them. One of the biggest problems is parasites in the dirt. In the wild they can rub on things and get them off but in a closure they cannot. Get them some sand and bake it in the oven on a cookie sheet until it is very, very hot. Let it cool and then put it in whatever you keep the toads in. The parasites will be gone. That is the main thing to do for them. they really do need sand and dirt and not shavings. You are right, they need red ants. I never turned the ants out with them. I would let the ants crawl up on a stick and lower it down to the toads a few at a time. Ours leaned to eat them off the stick. that way I knew they were eating. And of course, they need a hot rock....I hope this helps keep them alive.....I played with your toads before he left - you got 2 really neat ones. the one with the light color is very unusual.....good luck...
Have fun with your dad! Oh, and your little belly looks so cute!
one of my "moms' who came to the candle party says that she knows that there are red ants in the hills above Estacada and Molalla. Huge mounds of them. So, exactly what kind of red ants are we talking about???
