Appliance #2...Poor Mac Attack!

Poor Mac Attack...ouch!
This is appliance #2 in his long journey of getting his mouth fixed. I had no idea that appliance #2 was going to be so extreme. His first one was really not a big deal- http://potterluv.blogspot.com/2012/03/open-wide.html
This second appliance is called a Herps appliance and it stays in for an entire year. It is basically internal head gear. They don't do the old school style anymore that was on the outside of your mouth and you had to sleep in it. He will go in every few weeks and they will tighten it to hold his bottom jaw in place. He looks a bit like a robot! He has screws, metal and hard core glue stuff in his mouth...it's a bit strange and sometimes you can hear the hinges squeaking.

It's amazing how much different he looks with his jaw in line, where it is suppose to be. I really didn't know how out of place it was.
The first few weeks were really brutal for him. His cheeks have callused over now and it's not as painful, but it's still tough to eat a lot of things.
I am a bit concerned about football. It's a good thing they have face masks to keep the ball from hitting them directly in the mouth. He has a custom made mouth piece to wear and we have to cover it all in a thick layer of wax before each game...gonna be a chore...I think!
Hang in there Mac.
PS: I made sure he had zero boogers in the pictures, so you wouldn't have to see them...LOL! I am sure he will just love these pictures when he's around 16 years old!
