So it begins...
For the last two days, we have had flurries of snow falling from the sky. I knew it would be here soon. I can always feel it in my bones. The flakes are a reminder of the cold and wet we endure in this long season ahead...but the first snow is always magical- as it puts the restlessness of autumn to bed under its white blanket. The kids get giddy with excitement and can't wait to make the first snowmen, slide down that first of many hills on their sleds, walks in the woods.
I love watching the magic of snow...it makes everything new again...clean and fresh and fluffy. It's almost cleansing to my soul...after all the tragedies around the world this week, the snowflakes were very comforting. It was truly disappointing when it didn't stick around. We needed it to cool off just a few more degrees.
I saw this qoute and thought it fitting for this post-
"Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms- their- energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
It's OK...I know the snow is coming to stay in no time.
The kids will be looking for snowmen and snow to eat and the sound your boots make crunching where no one has walked yet...making tracks, finding pine cones, sticking out your tongue over and over to catch an elusive snow flake...oh and my favorite, snow stuck on eyelashes!
These things can make even ME like winter-
"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things"
